Paying homage to the past, the cities of Kelso and Longview share a commitment to the future. Trees, land, and water, it's why the cities of Kelso and Longview came to be, and those resources continue to influence the modern cities today. While we're nestled comfortable between the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean and the peaks of the Cascade Mountains, we're hardly hidden away! Kelso is in the heart of the Southwest Washington area, with excellent access provided by I-5.

One of Kelso's special secrets is our diversity. Our wide range of recreational opportunities and facilities offer choices that appeal to every taste The historical and the ultra-modern co-exist in our city, as do the man-made and the magnificently natural. Our bustling city with the sparkling Three Rivers Shopping Mall and downtown Longview bursting with specialty shops, give way to small town friendliness and a peaceful country atmosphere.

When it comes to outdoor activities the choices are abundant. There are more than 400 acres of public parks with walking, jogging and bicycle paths, playgrounds and picnic areas. Fishing the streams, rivers and lakes around Cowlitz County is a popular pastime for locals and visitors alike. Activities that include the water such as windsurfing, sailing , jet skiing, swimming and pleasure boating are popular activities. The Cascade Mountains and surrounding foothills are waiting for skiers, hikers and hunters. Or spend the day on the greens at Three Rivers Golf Course or the Mint Valley Golf Course. When it comes to Art and Entertainment, there are so many options.

The historic Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts hosts numerous stage and road show productions, and there are several theater groups in the area providing the local talent a chance to “break a leg”. The Southwest Washington Symphony, Lower Columbia College Music Department and the Community Choir perform regularly. With a free outdoor summer concert series at Lake Sacajawea during the summer offering a variety of entertainment in a casual setting.

Among the community events: Longview's Go 4th , is an old-fashioned red, white and blue Independence Day celebration, and Kelso celebrates it's Scottish roots with the Highlander Festival each September. Or visit one of the many local Farmer's Markets or Antique shops.
